he
name Monticelli has historic origins. The name stems "... dal suo sito
amenissimo che è un piccolo monticello in mezzo a vasta pianura" ("...
from its heavenly site that is a small hill in the middle of a large
valley" - Annibale Mariotti, manuscript n.1423, Biblioteca Comunale
Augusta di Perugia, 18th century).
The oldest military tower is from the year 1100 (Torre Piccola). The
two military towers later incorporated into a residential palace were
built in 1230 and 1260 (Torre Grande). The 4th
tower, partly destroyed in WWII by US bombs, is
from the early 15th century. In 2009 we shall complete the restauration
of the whole hamlet under the supervision of the Italian Ministry of
Cultural Affairs.
